Rhydding announce major overseas signing for 2016

In news that will no doubt excite Ben Rhydding members and the wider cricketing community in Yorkshire in general, the club are today delighted to announce the signing of former Bermuda left arm spinner Dwayne Leverock as their overseas player for the forthcoming season.

The news has been one of cricket's worst kept secrets having been leaked onto Leverock's Wikipedia page on Monday.

Having been left high and dry by the news that last year's overseas Kervon Christmas was not to return this season only a week ago, the club feared the worst. That was until a contact of Kervon's caught wind of the news and expressed Leverock's interest in playing abroad.

"It's something he'd never experienced, and at 44, thought this was the last chance he would have to play in the UK," said agent Profo Lalis, "although Dwayne has been out of the first-class game for some time, he has been playing club cricket in Bermuda and has enjoyed huge success. I'm sure the boys as Ben Rhydding will have a great time with him."

Cricket fans all over the world will instantly recognise Leverock after the big man developed huge cult status at the 2007 Cricket World Cup. The 20-stone giant claimed the wickets of Kumar Sangakkara, Kevin Pietersen and Yuvraj Singh during the tournament, and claimed a wondrous catch to dismiss India's Robin Uthappa that will go down in cricketing folklore for years to come.

Alongside his playing duties, Leverock will take on the role of club coach, and will assist heavily in the nurturing of the club's juniors.

The big man arrives in Yorkshire two days before the season opener against Adel, and is said to be looking forward to the experience.
