2nd XI promoted but fall short of championship win

With promotion already secured, the 2nd XI fell agonisingly close to winning the AWSCL division 3 title at the last game of the season. Going in to the final round on top of the League, it all boiled down to a winner takes all showdown, away at second place Bolton Villas. After bowling the hosts out for 138, with Dom Grimes taking 4-27 off 10, Oliver Musgrave’s side looked a little nervy, before a gutsy middle order stand between Daniel Shiels (14) and Forrest Hamilton (24) gave Rhydding hope. The Aire Wharfe 2nd XI division 3 champions will be decided next Saturday, with BRCC just one point ahead of our hosts at the weekend, Bolton Villas, following today’s win at Silsden. Having bowled hosts Silsden CC out for 182, Oliver Musgrave’s side held their nerve to record a comfortable win in the end, chasing down the total four down, thanks to 67 from Sam Housam, and 44 from the skipper. Earlier Danny Bell had taken 4-49, whilst Rob Withers, Andrew Jennings and Dom Grimes took two wickets a piece.
