Farewell to AWSCL...

And that… is that. We bow out from Airedale & Wharfedale Senior Cricket League today in the most perfect way – a double win weekend, enjoying our cricket as ever, with Alex Miller winning the Div. 3 bowling averages, outgoing 2s skipper Charles Isherwood taking his first 5-for for the Club and 2s vice Charlie Hatton sneaking into the League batting averages. Big thanks to Ilkley CC 2s who gave our 1s a guard of honour at the end of the match (Lovely touch), and New Rover CC 2s with their side of hugely talented juniors reminding us what we’re hoping to achieve in the years ahead. Rhydding girl done good!

Throughout September, we’ve been showing our support for #WomensCricketMonth. We’ve enjoyed an girls U9s match against our friends and local rivals Olicanian CC, whilst a couple of our promising junior girls had a net with the 2nd XI, and showed why within the next year or so, they will be given chances to develop into Senior cricket, within our senior sides. 45 years ago...

BRCC 2nd XI vs Menston CC Memories, We make them all the time, but occasionally a special year comes along. 7 years ago I started playing cricket again for Ben Rhydding after a gap of 37 years. At the age of 14 (1975) I played cricket for the first time for burley CC against Menston CC and for the occasion I wore my Dad’s Almondbury Grammer school red cricket cap. Winning the under 14 Wharfedale league. (The following year I joined Ben Rhydding CC) 45 years later playing cricket again at Menston and with the passing of my Dad (Keith) in January this year I wore the school cap again in his memory.
