Progress at NatWest Cricket Force weekend, despite the weather!

The annual NatWest Cricket Force weekend (Further details here) gave BRCC an opportunity to get Countances Way ready for the coming season. A number of the usual faces turned out, on a particularly wet and windy Saturday morning to make some inroads into the long list of tasks to get the clubhouse, scorebox area and square ready for all the 2015 season can throw at us.

Harry Smallwood, our new head groundsman, was on hand early doors, to make some further preparations to the pitches, before the rest of the dusted off the sight screens and covers, and cleared the remnants of several seasons worth of debris from around the scorebox and grounds garage.

Chip butties were provided by the Club for lunch, curtesy of Wendi Bolton once again, following on form as many cups of tea and biscuits as we could get through in the morning.

Perhaps the biggest effort was concentrated on the garage however, which was completely emptied, allowing Brent Thompson to build a bespoke storage area to give order to the huge number of tools, materials and equipment required to prepare close to 100 pitches throughout the season. Windows were reglazed, and the surrounding earth levelled to improve drainage. Finally, a few beers were enjoyed by the last remaining labourers in the clubhouse as the darkness drew in.

A great start to the season’s preparations, but with Sunday being written off due to the weather, there’s many jobs still to do, requiring all members to chip in to get us prepared for another packed season for BRCC.
