3rd XI 2014 Averages Published!
As autumn hits, the 3rd XI individual and squad averages for the 2014 season are now ready for distribution! The format remains the same as last season's inaugural publication, and once again, the document makes for some interesting reading.
Tom Revell's 54 n.o. away at Skipton was the highest score in the book, with the 'Curse of the 3rd XI 40s' effecting Adam Crooks, Chris Maunsell, Roam Hamilton and even Red Bolton - All who fell short of their 50s by less than 10 runs! Given the limited number of 3rd XI matches this time round, the qualifying number of games was just 2, however this still ruled out Pete Hewitt's only innings of 51.
With the ball, Luke Thomspon bowled a couple of great spells, with one game dragging his averages down, whilst to varying degrees, the limited number of games also muddied the averages of the under 15 quintet of Will Rowe, Tom Cross, Charlie Hatton and Matt Dale, following some hugely encouraging displays.
Finally, spare a thought for the plucky Laurie O'Connor, who despite surpassing 50 in both his games, fails to qualify for the averages, following some confusion with the home scorebook leading to the scores not being recorded from our away game at Burley. Better luck next time out, old boy!
