ECB suspends recreational cricket

Yesterday, Ben Rhydding Sports Club announced that the Clubhouse will be closed to all Members for any activity, with immediate effect, and remain closed until further notice. This includes all sections of the Sports Club, namely, Cricket, Hockey, Football, Croquet, Bowls and Tennis

As a result, this means no cricket can be played on the ground until further notice.

Today, the ECB issued an announcement stating…

“Following the Government’s latest advice around social distancing, it is with sadness and reluctance that we recommend that all forms of recreational cricket are for now suspended.”

The full ECB statement can be found here.

With this in mind, regrettably, Ben Rhydding Cricket Club has cancelled all pre-season training with immediate effect.

The Airedale and Wharfedale Senior Cricket League has today explained that their Management Committee will meet on 26th March to agree a position, ahead of the 2020 season. We await to hear the impact on both the senior and junior 2020 cricket seasons, but it appears that there will, (at best), almost certainly be a delay to the start of the season.

Whilst this is of course hugely disappointing to all of us who love the game, I suspect it’s not a great surprise, and I’m sure we’d all agree that the health of our members and the wider community has to be the priority, in these most difficult times.

We’ll let you have any updates as soon as have they are available.

In the meantime, keep safe.
