Billed as a crucial weekend for the 2017 ambitions of both the 1st and 2nd XIs, Saturday evening gave cause for some celebration, with both teams recoding a win, and pocketing Paul Hardcastle’s favourite – 19 points.
After the previous week’s nailbiter, the 1st XI had an early finish at Thackley, winning by 7 wickets. Fielding first, Rhydding dismissed Thackley for just 72, with opening bowlers Rob Withers and Henry Barrow taking all 10 wickets, with Withers finishing on 7-53, whilst Barrow went for just 17 in his seven overs, in picking up the other three. In reply, we knocked them off, three down, with Sam Housam hitting 26, before being trapped in front, which left an in-form Forrest Hamilton to see us through to victory, finishing on 30 not out. We continue to close the gap on league leaders Adel, now at just 24 points, with five to go.
How we sit in the AWSCL 1st XI Division 2 table
As for the 2s – A home game against relegation rivals Bolton Villas was the epitome of ‘must win’, and with the opening attack of vice-captain Danny Bell and Andrew Jennings, Villas were skittled for just 33. Belly sent their top 3 back to the shed, before AJ ripped through the middle and lower order, finishing with 6-13. After tea, we opened our chase with Brent Thompson (17) and Tim Wood, who finished on 8 not out, seeing us through to a priceless win.
Same again next week boys, and the BBQ social should be a cracker!
