Sluggish outfield at Countances Way...

BRCC's Countances Way ground under water in November

Following the floods on November, which saw much of the Countances Way ground underwater, we took an even bigger hit on Boxing Day, when the overflowing Wharfe made it all the way up to the Clubhouse, with several inches of dirty water covering the coaching room, bar and changing rooms.

The community spirit of our multi-sport Club kicked in, and the following day, representatives from the Cricket, Hockey and Football Clubs came down, to mop up and salvage what we could. Much of the furniture and carpet will need to be replaced, along with a proper drying out of the concrete and plaster, but the Clubhouse is at least now functional again. Many thanks to all who gave their time, to clear up our home.

BRCC may have ended up under water, but spare a thought for some of our friends from within the Aire-Wharfe Senior Cricket League…

Just down the road, Olicanian CC were under water on both occasions, with pictures on social media of club members rowing dinghies on the flooded outfield. Sadly, the ground won’t be ready for the start of the season, so Olies will be playing their first few home games at Howarth.

However, worst hit were Tong Park Esholt CC, with the entire ground requiring pumping to remove water, and an estimated £35,000 bill to make good what was lost / damaged.

All the best to our friends from within the Cricket Family.
